A first date on the Water Taxi in OKC is a unique and romantic experience. Here is the story of a couple’s first date on the Bricktown Canal, and how they made it into an annual tradition.

“My husband and I have decided that taking a Water Taxi ride is going to be an annual event to celebrate our anniversary.”

“We are thankful for a city like Oklahoma City that invests in these activities that create memories that last a lifetime.”

September 7th, 2020: OUR FIRST DATE ON THE WATER TAXI

I had no idea where we were going on our first date. I was surprised when I found out we were visiting the Crystal Bridge Conservatory, followed by a Water Taxi ride in Bricktown.

Was I excited? YES! Was I appropriately dressed for these events? NO!

But you know what? I didn’t care.

I was spending time with a man I had been communicating with by text and phone for a few weeks, and one thing I knew -I enjoyed getting to know him-.

Maybe my curly hair would get frizzy in the humidity of the Crystal Bridge Conservatory. Maybe I would sweat buckets because I chose to wear a dress and cardigan when the high was 88°F without a cloud in sight (I did not know I would be outside).

The things we do for love.

April 14th, 2022: OUR FIRST ANNIVERSARY ON THE WATER TAXI

706 days later, we stepped aboard a Water Taxi again. This time as a married couple celebrating our one-year anniversary. This time a little more relaxed. This time a little more able to take in the scenery. This time really enjoyed the moment. This time a little better dressed for the weather also.

I was born here in Oklahoma, so I’ve seen the Bricktown Canal since its birth. I rode the Water Taxi boats when they first began.

Now, we have a lifetime of Water Taxi rides ahead of us. My husband and I have decided that taking a Water Taxi ride will be an annual event to celebrate our anniversary.

I do not remember our Water Taxi driver/tour guide/ambassador from 2020, but for our FIRST anniversary, we had Pablo. He was one of the best ambassadors I have ever had.

We are thankful for a city like Oklahoma City that invests in these activities that create memories that last a lifetime.
