ArtAfloatOKC Foundation marks a new chapter in the life of Bricktown Canal, built in 1999 as a part of Oklahoma City’s original MAPS projects. This unique, combined effort is led by downtown partners and stakeholders committed to promoting an ever-changing environment and palette featuring Oklahoma-based artistic excellence.
ArtAfloatOKC represents a concerted effort to bring new and inspiring artistic interventions to the Bricktown Canal via the visual and performing arts. These include murals and other visual art within the canal area, dynamic (and occasionally interactive) lighting, technological displays, and even artistically-themed horticultural installations.
In partnership with Bricktown Water Taxi, ArtAfloatOKC Foundation seeks to fund additional artistic interventions, including the performing arts, which began with the Showboat Concert Series, Caroling Cruises, and Haunted History Cruises. These event venues will take place on Bricktown Water Taxi boats and throughout the canal, featuring music, drama, spoken word, and live performances.
Besides official endeavors, area partners such as Bricktown Water Taxi will pursue private efforts that closely align with the goals of ArtAfloatOKC, such as Water Taxi’s privately-funded project to reimagine its iconic boats via onboard murals in partnership with Oklahoma Mural Syndicate.
